THE ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation was established as a national philanthropy in 1972 and today is the largest US foundation devoted to improving the health and health care of all Americans. We concentrate our grant making in four areas.

TEXAS AREA HEALTH EDUCATION CENTERS (AHEC)

If you lived in a place where there were not enough physicians, nurses, or other health care professionals, you would welcome an Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to serve your community.  Texas AHECs link communities with health science schools, caregivers, philanthropies, and students to improve the health workforce of Texas.

We help young people and career-changing adults gain access to education and become their community's health professionals.

We provide health science schools with a pathway to address educational needs of communities.

We provide real-life community educational experiences for students.

We facilitate recruitment and retention support for providers.

Along with a special interest in primary care, we have a priority for underserved populations.

The AHEC Mission:
Improve the health of our communities by developing a quality health workforce and
helping address unmet health needs.
