Offers scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students pursuing the natural sciences, medicine and engineering career fields.

 

Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research

This foundation financially supports nearly 200 senior researchers recruited from Alberta and around the world, and approximately 350 researchers-in-training. This foundation provides scholarships for undergraduates and fellowships for graduates.

 

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation

Offers postdoctoral fellowships in chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, economics, and neuroscience or related interdisciplinary field.

 

Alphan One Foundation

The Young Investigator Fellowship Awards support postdoctoral research for studies in the basic science or clinical investigation of AAT Deficiency.

 

American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology

The Award of Excellence Scholarship Program provides college scholarships for asthmatic students.

 

American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Offers several different fellowship programs for medical students pursuing careers in adolescent psychiatry, drug abuse and addictions. Also has a program available for minority students.

 

American Academy of Family Physicians

Offers several different types of awards, grants, and scholarships to practicing residents and medical students. Also offers graduate and postgraduate funding programs designed for minority students.

 

American Academy of Optometry

Offers a variety of awards, grants, and scholarships to graduate and postgraduate students pursuing studies in basic and applied vision science.

 

American Academy of Pediatrics

Offers the Resident Research Grant Program to postdoctoral students to enhance the development of research skills among physicians in training.

 

American Academy of Peridontology Foundation

Offers the Dr. and Mrs. Gerald M. Kramer Scholarship for Excellence to a third-year student in an accredited periodontal graduate program in the U.S. The award is a $10,000 one-time cash award. Offers the Bud and Linda Tarrson Fellowship, which is a $30,000 award ($10,000 per year for up to 3 years). Offers Periodontal Student Scholarships of 5,000 to students in their final year of dental school.

 

American Art Therapy Association

Scholarships to assist with the purchase of books and other non-tuition-related expenses are awarded to minority students in the field of art therapy.

 

American Association of Neurological Surgeons

Offers research fellowships and grants to neurosurgeons who are preparing for academic careers as clinical investigators.

 

American Association of University Women Educational Foundation

The foundation provides grants and fellowships exclusively to graduate women pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.

 

American College of Healthcare Executives

Albert W. Dent Student Scholarships are awarded to minority students in a healthcare management program.

 

American College of Surgeons

Offers postgraduate research scholarships and fellowships to resident students pursuing surgery or a surgical specialty.

 

American Dental Association

The ADA Endowment Fund Program provides scholarships to students pursuing dental and allied health careers. The ADA also sponsors a Minority Dental Scholarship Program for underrepresented students pursuing a career in dentistry.

 

American Dental Hygienists Association

Offers a variety of scholarships for dental students enrolled in an approved program of dental laboratory study, dental assisting study, or dental hygiene study.

 

American Dental Hygienists Association Minority Program

Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Minority Scholarships are awarded to members of minority groups underrepresented in dental hygiene programs. Such groups include Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and men.

 

American Diabetes Association

The Donnelly Awards scholarship program offers $5,000 awards to scholar-athletes ages 14-21 who play interscholastic, intercollegiate or intramural tennis and have type I diabetes. The award can be used for education, athletic development and/or medical care.

 

American Digestive Health Foundation (ADHF)

The ADHF funds numerous research awards to encourage scientific and clinical discovery. These awards provide opportunities for individuals from the high school student to the established investigator in many areas of concentration in gastroenterology and hepatology. Approximately $3.0 million is awarded in 15 different categories.

 

American Federation for Aging Research

Offers the Medical Student Geriatric Scholars Program, which is used to identify and develop future leaders in geriatric medicine. The Merck/AFAR Medical Student Research Scholarships are offered to medical and Pharm. D. students to explore the field of geriatric pharmacology.

 

American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES)   

Scholarships are awarded to members of AISES who are American Indian or Alaskan Native college students pursuing academic programs in the engineering, mathematics, medicine, natural resources, or land science fields.

 

American Lung Association (ALA)

Offers ALA Research Grants and ALA Awards Program to support investigators pursuing lung-related research. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

 

American Medical Association Foundation

The American Medical Association Foundation annually offers the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Scholarship to a junior or senior medical student with a demonstrated interest and involvement in the communication of science. Scholarships also offered in medical journalism and psychiatry.

 

American Medical Women’s Association Foundation

Offers female medical student members scholarships for community service, activity in women's health issues and participation in AMWA and other women in medicine groups.

 

American Nurses Association

Offers a variety of research grants, fellowships, and scholarships available to nursing students.

 

American Nurses Association Minority Fellowship Program

A variety of fellowships, scholarships, and research grants are available to minority nurses.

 

American Otological Society

Offers Research Grant Awards and full time Research Training Fellowships to study otosclerosis, Meniere's disease, and related ear disorders.

 

American Parkinson’s Disease Association

Offers Research Grant Awards and Research Training Fellowships to study Parkinson’s disease and other related neurological disorders.

 

American Pharmaceutical Association

Offers scholarships to students enrolled in the last three years of a BS or PharmD program and planning to pursue the Ph.D. in a college of pharmacy graduate program.

 

American Philosophical Society

Offers short-term fellowships for studies in the humanities and social sciences. The Porter Physiology Fellowships/Scholarships are awarded to minority graduate students working on their doctoral degree in the physiological sciences.

 

American Physical Therapy Association

Offers annual scholarships for students pursuing careers in physical therapy as a therapist or as an aide. The Promotion of Doctoral Studies (PODS) scholarships fund physical therapists that have completed one full year of doctoral course work and wish to continue their course work or have entered the dissertation phase of their education. Scholarships for minority students are also available.

 

American Physiological Society, The

Offers several different awards and fellowships to those pursuing doctoral degrees in the physiological and biomedical sciences. Special programs are designed for physiology educators, minorities, and women.

 

American Psychiatric Association

Offers minority student fellowships to provide financial support and professional guidance to individuals pursuing doctoral degrees in psychology related to ethnic minority mental health and treatment delivered.

 

American Psychological Association

Offers several different fellowships that focus on aging, mental health, substance abuse, and neuroscience. Also offers the Minority Fellowship Program to individuals pursuing doctoral degrees in psychology and neuroscience.

 

American Society for Microbiology

Offers fellowships to minority students to pursue careers or advanced degrees in the microbiological sciences. Offers a summer research program limited to undergraduates studying microbiology or biology.

 

American Society of Safety Engineers

Offers scholarships for women pursuing a post-baccalaureate education in safety engineering, safety management, occupational health nursing, occupational medicine, risk management, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, fire safety, environmental safety, environmental health or other safety related fields.

 

American Statistical Association

Offers several different graduate-level fellowships in health research and economic analysis.

 

American Veterinary Medical Foundation

Offers scholarships to veterinary medical students enrolled in approved veterinary programs.

 

Association for Gerontology in Higher Education

Offers awards and financial support to students performing research on topics relevant to inflammatory bowel disease for a minimum of ten weeks.

 

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Offers research traineeships to senior-level undergraduate medical students interested in research related to Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Offers research fellowships to postgraduates interested in conducting basic or clinical research related to CF.

 

Dystonia Medical Research Foundation

Offers fellowship to assist post-doctoral students establishing careers in dystonia research.

Offers the Lilly Reintegration Scholarship to help people with schizophrenia and related schizophrenia-spectrum disorders acquire the educational and vocational skills necessary to reintegrate into society, secure jobs and regain their lives.

 

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation

Offers a variety of awards and grants to students who perform research projects related to pediatric HIV/AIDS. Scholar Awards are given to encourage young investigators to select pediatric HIV/AIDS as a research focus for their careers.

 

Entomological Society of America

Offers a variety of scholarships to minority students entering the first-year of college.

Offers fellowships to medical students pursuing basic research in neuroscience and other related areas.

 

Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute

The foundation offers an internship program designed for young minority journalists interested in specializing in urban public health issues and obtaining a better understanding of the national policy-making process. Kaiser Media Fellowships in Health are offered for print or broadcast reporters, editors, and producers who cover health issues.

 

Hereditary Disease Foundation

Offers fellowships for research projects that will contribute to identifying and understanding the basic defect of Huntington's disease.

 

Immune Deficiency Foundation

Offers scholarships to students with immune deficiencies and fellowships to students wishing to pursue postdoctoral studies in the field of Primary Immune Deficiency Diseases.

 

International Foundation for Ethical Research

Offers Graduate Fellowships in Animal Welfare to students dedicated to development and implementation of scientifically valid alternatives to the use of animals in research, product testing, and education.

 

McDonald’s HACER Scholarships

The HACER (Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources) Scholarships are awarded annually to the next generation of doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals from minority communities.

 

Morris K. Udall Foundation

The foundation awards scholarships to Native American and Alaska Natives in fields related to health care or tribal policy. Also offers summer congressional internships.

 

Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America

Offers fellowships to nurses and nursing students interested in studying problems encountered by patients with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) or related neuromuscular conditions. Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded to current medical students or medical graduate students interested in the scientific basis of MG or related neuromuscular conditions.

The Investigating in Women in Development (IWID) fellowship program offers a hands-on development experience in an international setting for 12 months to study democracy/governance, business and economic development, education for young females, local environment, and population health and nutrition.

 

U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Offers postdoctoral fellowships for professionals pursuing careers in informatics and in public health. Also has a special program of awards for minority students.

U. S. Health Resources and Services Administration

HRSA directs national programs that improve the nation's health by assuring equitable access to comprehensive, quality health care for all. Scholarships are available for every area of healthcare professions.

 

U. S. Indian Health Service
